WHAT IS CALCIFIC TENDONITIS
This is another condition that affects the rotator cuff in the shoulder. If you x-ray a number of adult shoulders it is not uncommon to find signs of calcium deposits. Sometimes, however, particularly in women these deposits can suddenly cause very severe pain. The shoulder becomes red, hot to touch and tender. The calcium crystals that are present cause these severe symptoms. Often the pain is very acute and needs to be treated with local measures and injections. It is sometimes possible to aspirate the crystals or even wash the calcium out using a telescope (arthroscope). This form of key hole surgery may be recommended if all other treatments fail to relieve symptoms
